Vernonia noveboracensis - New York Ironweed

Vernonia noveboracensis is an herbaceous perennial with terminal clusters of tiny, fluffy, purple flowers and and the end of summer into the fall, and rough, serrate, lance-shaped leaves.  This tall native is best placed in the back of the garden where it can spread out those purple flowers that will crawl with pollinators. Plant with another tall grower, Joe Pye Weed for an impressive stand of flowers. Mix in lower growing natives for a great show.
