Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah' - Switchgrass

Panicum virgatum is a perennial warm season grass with a stiff, columnar, clump form that grows up to 3' throughout the season.  The green leaves turn yellow in autumn and then beige in winter and the flowers which appear in mid-summer are pink-tinged with an airy cloud-like appearance. The straight species of this tall prairie plant works great in native gardens. Plant a few for a nice stand.

'Shenandoah' has bluish-green foliage that turns burgandy-red in summer with finely textured reddish-pink flowers panicles.
